Year Joined Firm:
2010 (full-time), 2007 (summer internship)
Home Office:
London
Background:
University of Cambridge (Queens’ College)
MEng. MA (Hons.) Chemical Engineering
Favourite Project:
Advising a Private Equity firm, as part of a four person team based in Amsterdam, on the outlook for a Norwegian company making safety equipment used by the off-shore energy and shipping industry. Although I was warned about the intensity of due diligence projects I enjoyed the challenge of pushing myself to learn quickly so that I could help forecast the future for the market and target company. Working on such projects, although uncommon, entails a deep knowledge of something unusual (e.g. how the second-hand market for canopy fabric used for personal sailing boats in Scandinavia functions), which I like!
Why Booz & Company:
There are a few key differentiators which I thoroughly enjoy about being at Booz & Company: an extremely friendly and supportive culture – people always take time to help and I never feel awkward asking the most basic or most complex question; the chance to gain amazing experience on a range of business challenges – we solve unique problems (rather than simply replicating work) for top clients and there is a strong emphasis on all-round development and providing people with opportunities they enjoy; and finally it’s an exciting time to be part of Booz & Company – we recently gained independence from our U.S. govt. consulting counterparts (Booz Allen Hamilton) and are now undergoing a renewal with lots of changes to make the firm stronger and better.
Beyond Booz & Company:
I’m really interested in international development and spent a year prior to joining Booz & Company in a village in Western India, as part of the Indicorps Fellowship programme, working on a project to boost rural entrepreneurship. Although I’d like to continue to gain the skills and experience that a career in consulting provides, including pursuing an MBA, in the longer term I would like to start my own social enterprise, possibly supporting and promoting rural entrepreneurship.
