Sharath
Jeevan

Founder and Chief Executive
GlobalGiving.co.uk and Teaching Leaders

Former industry/office: Operations, London
Alumnus since August 2005

Sharath was a Senior Consultant in the London office between 1997 and 1999, and then a Senior Associate between 2003 and 2005. In between he worked for an international development NGO, founded an internet company in Asia, and also completed his MBA at INSEAD.

He is now Founder and Chief Executive of two non-profit organisations, GlobalGiving.co.uk and Teaching Leaders. GlobalGiving.co.uk is an online marketplace that enables individuals to directly support grass roots charity projects all over the developing world, and stay in touch with the projects’ progress. Teaching Leaders aims to raise achievement and aspirations in the most challenging inner-city schools across the UK, through training and developing a new generation of school leaders.

Sharath has found the skills and experiences from his Booz days invaluable in his new roles. “With any entrepreneurial organisation, it’s so important to define a clear strategic vision and direction from the outset. But it’s even more critical in the non-profit sector, where the underlying issues you’re trying to address are so complex and multi-faceted.”

Both organisations launched successfully in Q4 2008 and are now on a strong growth trajectory, with support from leading companies such as Google, Expedia and Pearson. Indeed, Booz & Company directly supported the launch of GlobalGiving.co.uk by providing free office space for its first few months. The launch reception was held in the Booz & Company office, hosted by Managing Partner Muir Sanderson and with the Minister for International Development as the keynote guest.

Sharath has also had tremendous help and support from many Booz alumni, and would be delighted to hear from anyone who might be interested in getting involved, either at an individual level or through the organisations they now work for. He can be contacted at sjeevan@globalgiving.co.uk
