Based in Booz & Company Amsterdam office, Otto Waterlander concentrates his expertise on strategy development, performance improvement, and transformation management. As a Partner of the firm, he supports numerous energy clients, including leading upstream, gas, power, and utility players in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. He leads Booz & Company activities in natural gas and liquid natural gas (LNG).
Recent engagements at the firm include:
- Repositioning clients’ natural gas and LNG businesses along the value chain from wellhead to burner-tip, and providing business development including pipeline and LNG schemes and organizational development and integration
- Developing a technology portfolio for a leading European gas and power transmission company, including creating a long-term industry vision, identifying relevant technologies and technology trends, and providing a framework for prioritization
- Supporting clients in upstream and downstream sectors to integrate businesses through a merger, accelerating the capture of synergies from the pre-close period, delivering organization and process integration, and leading the project management office
- Defining and implementing a competitively differentiated and winning market position for clients in the petrol retail market throughout numerous European countries, often against the backdrop of changing market dynamics such as the emergence of price competition and proliferation of unmanned sites
- Supporting a major integrated oil company and its worldwide businesses to define and implement organizational and process changes to ensure compliance with Sarbanes Oxley requirements on a sustainable basis
- Developing a new management approach for a major integrated oil company’s critical global expatriate resource pool
- Leading commercial due diligence efforts for private equity and buy-out funds in the Netherlands across a variety of sectors including human resources, construction, energy distribution, and power equipment
A recognized thought leader, Mr. Waterlander is the author of the Booz & Company study, "Security of Demand and Suppy: Different Sides of the Same Coin?"
He holds a degree in business economics with a concentration in financial management from the Erasmus University Rotterdam, and speaks Dutch, English, German, and Spanish.
