Booz & Company Community Development - The Cairo Kids Initiative—Bringing Joy to Orphans

The Cairo Kids Initiative—Bringing Joy to Orphans

In 2007, Booz & Company’s Cairo office team started the Cairo Kids Initiative, which supports underfunded children’s orphanages in Cairo. The Cairo team members make personal financial contributions two or three times every year and use these funds to provide much-needed food supplies, blankets, and toys to orphanages. But the highlight of the initiative has always been the orphanage visits. More than 15 client and support staff spend time playing with the kids and sharing sweets and toys to make the children’s day a bit brighter.

What started as a small activity with four interested members occasionally supporting one orphanage is now an office-wide community service initiative that receives contributions from more than 30 staffers and supports two orphanages on a regular basis. To date, the initiative has raised approximately EGP25,000 (US$4,400) and organized numerous visits.

In addition to the Cairo Kids activities, the Cairo office client and support staff, as well as their relatives and friends, collected books, clothes, toiletries, and children’s toys to be donated to orphanages as part of the “1st Annual Middle East Charity Drive” among Booz & Company Middle East offices. The team managed to collect a significant number of donations and to fill up all the charity boxes that were distributed around the office.

The team looks forward to continuing this positive work for the community by growing the Cairo Kids initiative. They hope to further involve current staffers as well as alumni from other offices who are willing to contribute financially to the initiative or participate in visits to the orphanages.
