Based in Vienna, Klaus Hoelbling, is a Partner at Booz & Company who primarily supports international telecommunications, media and high-tech clients. He also leads the firm’s business in Austria and is a member of the Germany, Switzerland, and Austria Leadership Team.

Since joining Booz & Company in 1996, Klaus Hoelbling has contributed and led a wide range of assignments with clients in his sectors in Europe, Middle East and the U.S. He specializes in strategy-based transformation programs, organizational redesign and capability building efforts with a special expertise in marketing, sales and service strategy and operations.

Mr. Hoelbling is recognized for his strong skills and notable accomplishments in designing solutions that serve a broad range of clients, such as:

  • Developing a global growth strategy for a regional champion in that field to leverage the multi-billion opportunities in the cloud and SaaS business market
  • Supporting an integrated telco operator group in developing a corporate growth strategy looking at organic and inorganic growth options across all local markets and beyond (e.g. adjacent industries, out-of-area acquisitions, etc.)
  • Developing a Business Market/ICT growth strategy across corporate, SME, and SOHO segments for a European telco incumbent
  • Supporting a European integrated fixed/mobile telco group achieve a significant EBITDA improvement by leveraging opportunities both on the revenue as well as on the cost side
  • Assessing the global domain market (parking, trading) and reviewing the strategy and business plan of a global player in that market
  • Reviewing the local market strategy and identifying growth opportunities for a global software vendor
  • Developing a comprehensive program design and establishing an online sales and service platform — which included strategic, commercial, and IT perspectives — for a global mobile communications operator
  • Supporting a mobile operator in developing a fixed-line market entry strategy and support the execution including assessment of fixed-line market opportunities, entry options, acquisition candidates, business case, due diligence, etc.
  • Supporting a European telco incumbent in designing an integrated fixed/mobile organization and merging the two previously separate units
  • Supporting and integrated (fixed, mobile) telco incumbent in developing an integrated fixed/mobile business market Customer Service strategy and organisational blueprint
  • Managing a large-scale business transformation program — including network, IT, customer management, terminals, and roaming — for a global mobile communications operator
  • Developing a cross-business-unit, cross-up-selling program and build-up of campaign management capabilities for an integrated broadband player

Mr. Hoelbling has written or co-authored several articles, studies, and viewpoints on sales, marketing. and service trends in the telecom and high-tech industries.

Active in community work, he is a founding member of Booz & Company’s Macht:Mut initiative, which supports Caritas in looking after orphaned refugee children; he also serves on the Board of the American Chamber of Commerce in Austria.

Mr. Hoelbling earned a master’s degree in commerce from the Vienna University of Economics and Business and an MBA from Lancaster University in the U.K.
