Kees Cools is a Partner at Booz & Company based in Amsterdam. He focuses on corporate strategy, corporate finance, performance management, and corporate governance & leadership for organizations in the Energy, Telco, Finance and Healthcare sectors.
Recent projects include:
A renowned expert on corporate governance, Kees was a member of the first Dutch Corporate Governance Monitoring Committee (Frijns Committee), which oversees compliance with the Corporate Governance Code (Code Tabaksblat) in Dutch business. He also advises the Dutch government on issues regarding corporate governance, including shareholder activism and diversity and management remuneration. Additionally, he advised the Dutch government on such diverse matters as the privatization of the Schiphol airport, liberalizing energy markets, the privatization of general hospitals.
Kees is a part-time professor of Corporate Finance at the University of Groningen, a position he has held since 1999.
He is the author of several publications, including a biweekly column in Het Financieele Dagblad, and is a co-founder of wintercools, a web site on innovation in governance and leadership. His book on this subject, Controle is goed, vertrouwen is beter, won a prize for the best management book in 2005. He is also a member of the Panel of Economists at BNR Nieuwsradio.
Kees holds bachelor’s degrees in Philosophy and Economics, an MBA (cum laude), and a PhD in Corporate Finance, all from the University of Tilburg. Additionally, he also certified as a Chartered Accountant. Before joining Booz & Company, he worked for The Boston Consulting Group, Akzo Nobel and Tilburg University.
