Based in China, Joni Bessler is a Partner at Booz & Company and a specialist in strategy, organization, operational improvement, and leadership transformation in the health and financial services industries.

In more than 25 years with the firm, Ms. Bessler has served public and private sector clients worldwide and relocated to Booz & Company's offices in Singapore and Australia for a decade.

She led or contributed to numerous high-profile projects, including:

  • Implementing customer segmentation and operational improvement (i.e., service and cost) for a major bank’s small business contact center
  • Identifying and detailing break-out strategies for one of the largest health plans in the U.S.
  • Transforming a national bank’s multiple mortgage-related businesses to make common those processes and activities where beneficial, while retaining customized activities where desirable
  • Assessing a bank’s return on marketing spend, requiring both the identification of where spend occurs and the associated revenue lift achieved
  • Implementing new enterprise-wide FFIEC guidelines on the electronic exchange of data, which affected over 250 bank web sites
  • Restructuring a premier bank’s HR function into a shared service organization to achieve significant costs savings and service improvements
  • Reducing cost, enhancing efficiency, and conducting medical management and reorganization for a number of Australian public teaching hospitals
  • Conducting a leadership audit for a major Canadian property & casualty insurer

She also served a three-year term as Worldwide Chief Human Resources Officer for the firm’s commercial consulting business.

She was responsible for the design, development, and implementation of Booz & Company people programs on a worldwide basis, including:

  • Recruiting
  • Training and development
  • HR policies and processes
  • Global measurements and rewards
  • Global assignments and relocations
  • Diversity

A recognized thought leader, Ms. Bessler has co-authored several articles, including “Getting a Return on Financial Services Marketing,” “Health Meets Wealth,” and “Outrunning the Regulators,” which all appeared in strategy+business.

A graduate of the University of Chicago, where she earned an MBA, Ms. Bessler also received a B.S. degree in engineering from Stanford University.
