George Appling is a Partner with Booz & Company focusing on telecommunications and high technology. He brings expertise in supply chain management, business strategy, organizational performance, and marketing/branding. Recent engagements include:
Goerge was formerly a Principal with Katzenbach Partners. Prior to joining Katzenbach, he was President of Global Solutions and Chief Operating Officer of Brightstar Corp, the world’s largest wireless distribution company with over $4 billion in gross sales in 50 countries. As COO, George was responsible for the operations of over 60 distribution centers, global IT, human resources, and indirect procurement. As President of Global Solutions, George had P&L responsibility for the Brightstar business unit selling device management and supply chain services to mobile operators and retailers. George drove his P&L from $25 million gross margin in 2005 to $113 million in 2007.
Before returning joining Brightstar, George was Chief Strategy Officer for Siemens Mobile ($12 billion revenue), based in Munich. Before that, George was founder and CEO of Xelibri, Siemens Mobile's attempt to create fashion phones as a new product category in Europe and Asia. Prior to Siemens, George was an Associate Principal with McKinsey & Company, in their Houston, Moscow, and Munich offices.
George received a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Arts, summa cum laude, from Texas A&M University. He also received an MBA from the Harvard Business School and an MPA from the Harvard Kennedy School.
