Cosmo Takamatsu specializes in business and operations strategies for the manufacturing, consumer, and retail industries, with particular focus on the automotive, automotive parts, semiconductor, and beverage sectors. He has extensive experiences in global projects executed in the U.S., Europe, Korea, Singapore, and China. He has been based in Tokyo since 1991.
Recent client engagements include:
- Global logistics outsourcing: Feasibility study of the use of 3PL outsourcers for an automotive manufacturer’s global logistics, including inbound parts, inter- and intra-factories, and factory to port, depot, and customer sites
- Domestic sales network rationalization: Restructuring of dealer network and OEM governance structure (organizational and RASIC)
- Profit pool analysis: Analysis of the beverage industry value chain from sourcing to retail outlets, identifying who makes money in which product categories and how
- CRM: Development of a purchase data mining and utilization mechanism for more effective customer communication and promotion
- Sourcing cost reduction: 15 percent cost reduction of discrete semiconductors and LSIs for a Tier 1 automotive electronic parts manufacturer through early involvement of suppliers and aggregation of volume
- Design-in: Inherent cost reduction of steering systems through early involvement and collaboration with suppliers to minimize the total costs (design cost, manufacturing, engineering changes, quality, and warranties)
- Production planning: Development of a detailed dynamic cost model by part numbers and production processes to simulate volume allocation of three plants for minimal cost and right pricing
- Manufacturing footprint optimization: Review of global manufacturing foot print (Japan, Europe, Thailand, Russia, and the U.S.) in anticipation of the global demand and product mix changes for a vehicle manufacturer
- SCM optimization: Supply chain control design for optimal inventory level by demand patterns and required lead time to achieve zero air emergency transportation
- SG&A cost optimization: Introduction of an overseas shared service center for business process standardization and centralization for a business services company
Before joining Booz & Company, Cosmo was Chief Operating Officer with Scient Japan and a researcher at Mitsubishi Research Institute. He received his bachelors of engineering from University of Tokyo and also holds a master of science in management from the Sloan School at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
