Leading the Way in Fighting Global Pandemics

GBC logoBooz & Company has a long-time partnership as an active member of the Global Business Coalition (GBC) working to coordinate the response by business in the fight against HIV / AIDS, tuberculosis (TB) and malaria.

Last month in New York, a Booz & Company team ran the 2008 GBC technical session that provides participating companies with a measurement and evaluation process for HIV / AIDS, TB and malaria programs. Co-hosted with HSBC and GSK, the session was attended by more than 80 participants who included senior executives from clients and business partners such as Daimler, BP, Shell, Exxon, Vale, Pfizer, the World Economic Forum, and the United Nations.

“From the beginning of our relationship with GBC, our role has been to be at the forefront in helping to meet the objectives of promoting global business community awareness, building understanding and organizing a practical response to these pandemics,” says London-based Partner Peter Parry. “This year’s technical session was a great opportunity for our team to illustrate the capabilities of Booz & Company.”

Created in 2001, the GBC has grown from 20 to more than 230 member companies. With initial leadership from retired Senior Partner Heather Burns and New York-based Partner Charley Beever, the Booz Allen / Booz & Company team has coordinated landmark GBC events linking business, government, NGOs and civil society in India (2004), China (2005) and Russia (2007). In 2006, the firm published The State of Business and AIDS, the first-ever baseline report on the topic.

At the technical session in New York, Booz & Company experts worked with company executives in demystifying the monitoring and evaluation process for workplace and community programs. At the GBC’s annual Gala event, held in conjunction with the seminar, Booz & Company team members dined with senior clients as well as world leaders and Ambassador Richard Holbrooke, president and CEO of the GBC.

Two related GBC events are just ahead for Booz & Company. In August, the firm’s GBC team will publish its branded evaluation of the technical session; while in September, it will launch the report, The State of Business and AIDS 2008 at the UN high level meeting.
