Profit Improvement Program for Major Magazine Group

  • Booz & Company was retained by a major magazine publisher to identify profit improvement opportunities.
  • Booz & Company identified improvement opportunities in all areas of the company, including editorial, ad sales, circulation, sourcing, overhead functions, and compensation and incentives. We evaluated the value of the advertising sales function, recommended an appropriate level of involvement, identified opportunities to better leverage scale, and evaluated productivity to identify specific staffing recommendations. We also made recommendations to improve forecasting capabilities and distribution factors, and initiated a comprehensive sourcing program across 15 commodities. Finally, Booz & Company identified a new compensation structure, appraisal process and incentive scheme that better aligned with the new strategy and performance goals.
