CEO Sucession 2011

Navigating the First Year as CEO

Booz & Company’s 12th Annual Global Study of worldwide CEO succession patterns examines the frequency, nature and geographic distribution of chief executive changes among the world’s 2,500 largest public companies. As the worldwide economy began to recover last year, 14.2 percent of CEOs at the world’s largest companies were replaced; thus the number of companies appointing new chief executives is on the rise in relation to last year.

Booz & Company analysis also shows a slight increase in the proportion of chief executives who are coming to their position from outside of the company. We believe the reason for this change is because boards of directors are looking for new candidates from other companies and other industries, in hopes of introducing fresh thinking into their executive mix.
