| Managing Director Power Business Unit at Centrica |
Former industry/office: Energy, Chemicals & Utilities, London
Alumnus since September 2001
Developing the world’s largest offshore wind farms in Northeast England, managing an array of gas-fired power stations and trading assets to maximise the return on a £2B investment—as Managing Director of the Power Business Unit at Centrica, Sarwjit Sambhi helps drive the growth of the UK’s leading supplier of gas and electricity. With responsibility for the UK generation fleet, new construction projects, and trading and business development for thermal and renewable power, Sarwjit is particularly proud of his contributions to UK wind farm development because Centrica is the main contractor and therefore responsible for the risk management of the entire build programme. As if this isn’t enough, Sarwjit has also found the time to run four marathons—and a triathlon.
Sarwjit joined the Booz & Company London office in 1994. His first assignment, a privatisation project, took him to Abu Dhabi. After that, he worked for UK utilities on strategy assignments. In the Netherlands, he helped shape the post-liberalisation structure of the electricity industry, and in 1997 joined the first of a worldwide series of Shell restructuring and strategy projects. Back in the Netherlands, Sarwjit developed a utilities client base during the remaining years at Booz until he joined Centrica in 2001.
