Varya Davidson is a partner in Booz & Company’s Organisation, Change and Leadership practice, based in Sydney, where she specialises in strategic transformation and organisational capability with a focus on the upstream oil and gas sector. She has worked with leading energy sector players in Europe, North and South America, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific.
Her assignments include:
- Business improvement project for a copper mine located in the Andes of Peru, which included team building, change management, modeling of various aspects of the operations, and identifying and analysing cost savings, production improvement opportunities and management and staff development needs
- Organisational redesign for a major UK Exploration & Production company. She led the team managing the redesign of the core management processes including strategy, business planning and performance management for the new entity to enable sustainable performance change. She also supported the organisation design, staff selection and resourcing process.
- Business improvement programme for a major Norwegian Exploration & Production company. She led several technical and non-technical Support Services teams to identify opportunities and supported the Operations team with implementation of a new organisation, including working with union representatives to ensure buy-in, and developing tracking and reporting tools.
- Global Learning Strategy for a major global Exploration & Production company and a major Downstream oil company. The company was facing a skills dilemma; a rapidly aging workforce, insufficient new recruits and unfocussed staff development. The team identified and provided examples of pan-industry best practice, completed a diagnostic of current learning delivery against business needs, developed a new learning strategy with supporting processes and implementation plans and also supported the redesign and resourcing of an organisation to deliver the strategy/processes.
- New global resourcing model for a major global Exploration & Production company. She managed the project, including supporting the communications, policy development and expatriate target setting teams. The spectrum of mobility options was enhanced, costed and new policies rolled out. Tools were built to enable tracking of premium expatriate resources and associated costs.
- New Learning Strategy at the group level for a multi-national oil and gas company looking to respond to the big crew change and the increasing challenge of attracting and retaining strong talent.
- Functional transformation of procurement at the Group level of a multi-national, developing a new strategy, operating model, organisation and global processes.
- Capability assessment project for a National Operating Company based in the Middle East. Identifying current and future skill levels against demand, analyzing capability building levers, including recruiting, resourcing, development and retention and implementing improvement opportunities. Worked with senior management to design and roll-out a change programme.
Ms Davidson holds a bachelor of science, majoring in Physics, and a bachelor of Laws with first class honours, both from the University of Sydney. She completed her MBA at INSEAD in 1999.
