Around public places

After leaving our firm, Jürgen remains a business professional, running the agency Cridon where he consults on marketing, innovation and outsourcing and develops products or businesses in the internet and telecommunication space.

He has also rediscovered his former passion and love of painting and photography and has taken this up with some considerable enthusiasm and success.

In February, Jürgen completed further studies, graduating in painting, photography and conceptual arts from “Freie Akademie der bildenen Künste” in Essen, fadbk, Germany. In 2007 he had his first major solo exhibition “Around public places” at Galerie Heinz-Martin Weigand, Ettlingen which was also was present at Art Cologne and shown in Athens. His most recent exhibition “Seven of 754,301, around documenta 12” was held in Essen this February. With this series, Jürgen continued the subject of “public places” but with a new interpretation.

Jürgen focused on individual people, „Seven of 754,301“ which presents seven visitors of documenta 12 and confronts them with a couple of hundred of all 754,301 visitors of this exhibition. The seven selected visitors are painted in life size in oil and tempera on canvas. The colors of skin, hair and clothing of the seven individuals are only changed slightly.

During the planning of this concept, Jürgen searched for answers to a couple of questions such as: Which people are interested in the complex documenta 12 exhibition? Were the visitors as international as rumours indicated, and as international as the art shown is?

The surface of public places composes an abstract picture – human beings seem to be disturbing the landscapes and vice versa. The background has been isolated in order to emphasise the people by using grey scales. This remains more natural to an observer than pure monochrome areas. The shadows of people connect figures and background. The original existing light is reflected in the paintings.
